PADI Open Water Diver Course Malta – Learn to Dive

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the most popular way to learn to dive in Malta — the entry-level scuba qualification for anyone aged 10 or over, with no previous experience needed. By the end of your training you will be comfortable with the equipment and able to relax and enjoy diving to 18 metres.

You will be with us for three full days, meeting at 08:00 and finishing at around 14:30. All theory is completed online before you arrive, so your days here are spent in the water. Tuition is available in a number of languages — just let us know your preference when you book.

What's included

  • PADI three-day course
  • Equipment hire for three days
  • Road transport to the dive sites
  • Log book and log book holder

What you need to buy separately

A PADI online theory access code at €155 per person. Please purchase this when you book your course, so we can send you your unique code to access the online theory before you arrive.

Course prices

Prices depend on age and the instructor-to-student ratio:

  • Ages 10 & 11: maximum diving depth 12 metres, class ratio of one instructor to two students — €650 per student.
  • Ages 12 and up: maximum diving depth 18 metres, class ratio of three students to one instructor — €495 per person.
  • Private one-to-one tuition: add €150 per day.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes — you need to be able to swim to enrol, and there is a short swim test on the first day. You do not need to be a strong swimmer, but you should be able to swim a distance and keep yourself afloat unaided.

Optional add-ons

Start-up kit package — €170. A great-value package including a set of comfortable, easily adjustable Aqualung travel fins, hard-soled booties, a silicone mask and a purge snorkel. With an instructor on hand to help you choose the right mask and fins, it is always best to have your own well-fitting mask and comfortable boots for the course — and with Malta being perfect for snorkelling, you will make good use of your kit throughout your holiday.

Accommodation

If you have not yet booked your accommodation, we can offer apartments close to the dive centre. Sizes vary, from one-bedroom studios perfect for single travellers or couples, to a two-bedroom for four, and a spacious penthouse sleeping six. For extra luxury, we also have a wonderful seafront villa sleeping up to six.

Insurance cover

Please make sure your travel insurance covers diving as a holiday activity — we recommend checking this in case you are unable to complete your course due to illness. The most common issues affecting divers are ear infections and sinus or equalisation problems brought on by a cold. You can get a quote to cover you for diving during your training from DiveAssure, choosing between "Dive Only" or "Dive & Travel" cover.
